Buena Vista Youth Basketball Program
The mission of the Buena Vista United Methodist Church (BVUMC) Youth Basketball program is to provide youth and families with the opportunity to play basketball in a safe, well-organized environment that fosters values of teamwork, cultural awareness and community service.
We envision the BVUMC Youth Basketball program as a means for players to build self-esteem, confidence and strong peer relationships in the context of a spiritual community.
While rooted in an Asian community, the program is open to youth and families of all ethnicities, religions and basketball skill levels.
Overview of Program
The Basketball Program is for youth entering kindergarten through high school. The program is organized and operated by a team of dedicated volunteers who are committed to providing the youth in our community with the opportunity to play basketball in a safe, well-organized environment.

Bing Lee Memorial Community Service Award
The annual Bing Lee Memorial Community Service Award was established to honor the legacy of Bing Lee. Bing was a community member who served on the Basketball Board of Directors and coached teams for BVUMC. The award is given each year to a community member who serves the basketball program in the spirit of partnership and collaboration with BVUMC.
Practice and League Schedule
The Basketball Program season runs from September through March. The League season typically begins the first week of December and runs through February. League games are held on the weekends at various gyms throughout the Bay Area.
Our teams may also participate in Tournaments and Jamborees during the Basketball Season.
Throughout the season, we also schedule Program Gathering Events, which are opportunities for players and families to engage in fun community building activities together such as volunteering at the APC Urban Farm in Alameda.
Asian Community Basketball Association (ACBA)
The BVUMC boys’ teams, 5th grade through high school, participate in the Asian Community Basketball Association. This league emphasizes sportsmanship and fair play among its teams, organizations and players. BVUMC was a founding member of ACBA more than 10 years ago.
East Bay Girls Athletic League (EBGAL)
The BVUMC girls’ teams, 4th grade through high school, participate in the East Bay Girls Athletic League.
Instructional Teams
The BVUMC Instructional Teams are open to youth in kindergarten through 4th grade. Instructional Teams scrimmage with other Asian youth basketball organizations throughout the season to provide players with game conditions and experience.
